Every day, millions of bottles are produced from blown preforms to package, transport and store all types of beverages (mineral water, soft drinks, dairy products), liquid foods (cooking oils, ketchup, sauces), hygiene products, cosmetic products (creams, lotions, mascara, etc.), and many others.
Before manufacturing your containers and giving them their final shape, check several requirements that are essential for the “right” manufacturing process. How do you pass from a draft to a “good” quality package?
The PBMS is a fully automatic dimensional measurement system designed specifically to improve your container manufacturing and inspection processes. Control effectively that the overall dimensions of your preforms or bottles and flasks are in accordance with the specifications, cancelling any manufacturing defects that slow down the line and generate financial loss.
To simplify this tedious task, while providing highly repeatable and accurate measurement results, this system incorporates Industry 4.0 features and functions. The automation, the pre-training and the use of multi-lens optical refraction imaging make the PBMS a unique tool for achieving high performance results.
The PBMS automates most of measurements of your packaging in a single operation and performs a complete dimensional analysis in few seconds. Easy and quick to use, without operators, you save time and efficiency on the quality control of your products.
Based on the principle of optical multi-lens refraction and segmented imaging, and multi-segment parallel light is used to illuminate the preform to obtain the entire contour of the image. The data extracted from the bi-telecentric lens and the parallel light source ensures that the contour is not deformed and the measurement is accurate.
Optimal use of the light source filters out the effects of shrinkage and grain caused by the injection molding of the preform.
The automatic positioning makes easy to read all the dimensions of the preform, from the simplest to the most complex: regular dimensions such as neck diameter, thread diameter and outer diameter for tamper-evident rings, as well as concentricity, overall height, etc.
As all preform’s finish have different dimensions, the holders are custom-made and easily interchanged to ensure accuracy of measurement.
During the reading of the sample, the rotation of the preform/bottle is ensured by a reliable electronic system allowing to predetermine, to adjust precisely the positions, then to maintain them, even to correct them. The servomotor, associated with the data processing software, allows the repeatability of the setpoints until results equivalent to your tolerance thresholds are obtained. Finally, the PBMS makes it possible to standardise measurements thanks to the positioning by the characteristic points inherent in the preforms.
One of the biggest challenges with measuring systems of this type is the preparation and programming of the device to perform the required measurements. The software integrated in the device offers several modules for finishing measurements. Through repetitive learning of information and training, the system can identify the type of category of the preform presented and automatically select the required measuring module. Based on the pre-learning of the characters, the impression number on the preform can be quickly identified and recorded in the data sheet and the format stored as a sample in the library.
In a format compatible with the size and style of laboratory operations, the PBMS has been designed specifically to meet this need. It adds easily into a limited workspace with dimensions equivalent to those of a small household appliance.
Simple to use, the PBMS is a powerful job creation and editing tool that can be easily integrated into your work environment because it is compatible with the Windows operating system.
Its handling is facilitated by its large, customisable and intuitive user interface and its touch screen.
